pulsers 17 : microsequencers
Pulsers: microsequencers interacting in a force field, controlled as a rhythm instrument. They are born free, but get enslaved to other’s tempi. Active and inactive responding to triggers. Alife, connectivity, polyrhytms and texture. Synth and processed guitar soundscape. Code: Processing. (version updated after the Aveiro EAW 2017 conference) I’ve decided to create video pieces with my Processing sketcher. This is the first in a series

After many months of struggling with OSC running in separate threads on Unity, I’ve got it going. Now the work with mech actors and animation in Blender, and integration with my DMX + Arduino system.

Libre Graphics Research Unit – Meeting at Bergen (Norway)
…the Libre Graphics Research Unit, a collaboration between Medialab Prado (Madrid), Worm (Rotterdam), Piksel (Bergen) and Constant. actively engaged in Free/Libre and Open Source Software and Free Culture…
representing (myself) Medialab Prado (Madrid), together with Chris Sugrue!
a big honor and a pleasure.
The meeting was titled Piksels and Lines and had “a particular focus on improvements, interoperability between and fringe use of F/LOSS graphic bitmap and vector software, as well as generative software used in performative contexts.”
I could talk actively with artists, designers and coders. The best people around.
The last day we organized an amazing audiovisual performance, a circular network were FLOSS programs were hacked to send their actions on the network, so the data could then be visulized and sonified. Each participant worked really hard on it’s part, and the whole emerged with amazing strength. Transdisciplinary collaborative work at it’s best.
I built a PureData patch that could open the bitmaps that were produced and generate sound from their RGB values. A spektral delay was added in order to get a better spatial effect.

SuiteZero: Pd audio release on Exp_net
Suite Zero was created on PureData as an investigation on Form/Structure. It was performed live at Radar (Madrid), at a PureData session organized by the Medialab Madrid. Sound and structure were generated by PureData, sending pulses and data to a Processing visual application. It is mixed and manipulated on real time. It’s focus was on structure, so the sounds were deliberately minimalist. It’s been recorded and subtly enhanced with new sounds, processed and mastered. It’s been releasead on Exp_net, on a Creative Commons license:

Live at Handmade Music by Peter Kirn – Createdigitalmusic.com
“Pulsantes” was performed live by Peter Kirn, from Createdigitalmusic.com at the Handmade Music show
on March 19, at 3rd Ward, Brooklin, New York.
He managed to run both the Processing sketches and their corresponding PureData patches, connected by OSC, with success!
nice tele-acting, I don’t have a robot yet, but I can play live at New York without travelling – the future, for sure.

Pulsantes (Alphas)
An artificial life environment that generates rythms and sounds. Agents move freely, guided by their own will, adapting to the medium forces. They send messages to their friends, that get get frozen when receiving this messages, and then awaken. You can ‘play live’ with this creatures, altering the way they react to outer forces, running away, freezing or wandering. It is planned to add wind and realtime control on the forces with midi knobs, and some regeneration of inner rythms.
PureData receives ‘pulses’ generated by the internal micro-sequencers of each ‘pulsante’, triggering sounds. The background forces modulate the sonic ambient.
All it’s just Alpha developing, and I mixed several different versions of the work in progress, from the first little bugs to the more complex actual environment.
I just saw Tiction on Create Digital Music, and thought I should share this early version.
