VR Soundwalk – La Cupole Soundgarden / Klanggarten Kuppel
Metaverse – Ars Electronica Festival 2020
Ars Electronica: La Cupole Soundgarden / Klanggarten Kuppel
A soundwalk in a closed dome, old speakers emit sound textures, soundscapes and fragments of my album compositions. Black cubes, an homage to the box with the sound of its own making, and some enigmatic spheres complete the sound environment. A place meant for slow listening and curious appreciation of the sonic material, choosing your own spots, turning your head to get the right balance.

pulsers 17 : microsequencers
Pulsers: microsequencers interacting in a force field, controlled as a rhythm instrument. They are born free, but get enslaved to other’s tempi. Active and inactive responding to triggers. Alife, connectivity, polyrhytms and texture. Synth and processed guitar soundscape. Code: Processing. (version updated after the Aveiro EAW 2017 conference) I’ve decided to create video pieces with my Processing sketcher. This is the first in a series

The International Conference Electroacoustic Winds 2017: SYNCHRESIS – Audio Vision Tales is organized by the Center of Electroacoustic Research (CIME), the Institute for Ethnomusicology – Research Center for Music and Dance (INET-MD), Research Institute in Design, Media and Culture (ID+) and DigiMedia – Digital Media and Interaction (CIC.Digital).
This conference seeks to establish bridges between Music Creation, Design & Soundscapes and New Media.
The eaw2017 SYNCHRESIS – Audio Vision Tales conference will focus on the relationship between sound and image, two different languages within the multimedia art form. The technological tools to improve this relationship are the main focus of the proposed symposium; dialogical perspectives will be given center stage relevance and participants will be confronted with both technical-linguistic and aesthetic points of view, but also discussions on how technology is enabling these two mediums to merge, creating tools for manipulating and enhancing not only the artist’s creativity but also the audience’s immersion.
This audio-vision relationship has become a research focus for different authors in recent decades. However, in this field, as in others within the digital humanities realm, new assumptions and theories are created every time technology overcomes its constraints and presents a new paradigm.
Design and soundscapes aims to discuss and mirror interactions between and features of design, sound, silence and the potential to perceive space, place and time. Intending to enlarge the scope of the debate, Design and Soundscapes invites researchers, practitioners and performers to present theoretical frameworks and/or empirical studies that address these topics.

Multi Output Sound
I managed to get working a 4 way sound setup with a laptop’s internal sound card and a really cheap usb external stereo card. The magic lies in Asio4all driver, it is able to join several sound cards into a combined virtual device with low latency. Thanks to Isabel Soler, who bought a Speed link. Vigo USB Saund Card

Libre Graphics Research Unit – Meeting at Bergen (Norway)
…the Libre Graphics Research Unit, a collaboration between Medialab Prado (Madrid), Worm (Rotterdam), Piksel (Bergen) and Constant. actively engaged in Free/Libre and Open Source Software and Free Culture…
representing (myself) Medialab Prado (Madrid), together with Chris Sugrue!
a big honor and a pleasure.
The meeting was titled Piksels and Lines and had “a particular focus on improvements, interoperability between and fringe use of F/LOSS graphic bitmap and vector software, as well as generative software used in performative contexts.”
I could talk actively with artists, designers and coders. The best people around.
The last day we organized an amazing audiovisual performance, a circular network were FLOSS programs were hacked to send their actions on the network, so the data could then be visulized and sonified. Each participant worked really hard on it’s part, and the whole emerged with amazing strength. Transdisciplinary collaborative work at it’s best.
I built a PureData patch that could open the bitmaps that were produced and generate sound from their RGB values. A spektral delay was added in order to get a better spatial effect.

New noisy machines
I’ve been building some new small synths for my coming live acts at In-Sonora 2010.
Thanks to Nicolas Collins, I’ve rediscovered the pleasures of dirty soldering electronics, and messing with his designs on the prototype board I’ve get two strange machines, perfect for live improvisation.
Drones, blips and beeps, and some magic flashlight waving.

Pulsantes (Alphas)
An artificial life environment that generates rythms and sounds. Agents move freely, guided by their own will, adapting to the medium forces. They send messages to their friends, that get get frozen when receiving this messages, and then awaken. You can ‘play live’ with this creatures, altering the way they react to outer forces, running away, freezing or wandering. It is planned to add wind and realtime control on the forces with midi knobs, and some regeneration of inner rythms.
PureData receives ‘pulses’ generated by the internal micro-sequencers of each ‘pulsante’, triggering sounds. The background forces modulate the sonic ambient.
All it’s just Alpha developing, and I mixed several different versions of the work in progress, from the first little bugs to the more complex actual environment.
I just saw Tiction on Create Digital Music, and thought I should share this early version.
